Salford university boat club

Established in 1965, not only does Salford University Boat Club have a wealth of history but it still carries the same desire to perform at the highest level. We train at Salford Quays at where we row on the water in all weather conditions and work in the gym when it's just too windy.

We welcome anyone to the club whether you’re a complete beginner or if you already have some experience.
We train on a quiet 5km stretch of the river Irwell with our boat house being a purpose-built water sports centre with erg room, gym, kitchen and boat house. We have a free bus service from campus to the Quays.

Our current fleet consists of 2 Eights, 2 coxed Fours, 2 coxless fours/quads, 2 Pairs/Doubles and a Single, and this has been rapidly expanding over the last few years.

One of our main goals this year is to build up our women's squad as well as our novice squad to keep the club going strong!

Once you’ve joined the club you'll be able to see how our friendly environment makes us feel like one big family, which makes training and socials a lot more enjoyable. Joining rowing is the perfect balance between working hard and playing hard. You don’t just join a team, you join a family, where you immediately make friends for life.

Agecroft RC

We share our facilities with Agecroft RC the best public rowing club in the North West. Winning races, coming back with silverware and making Henley finals has become the norm, but the whole club is ecstatic in it's support every time it happens. Agecroft has also supplied one of it's members to Team GB at both the London and Beijing Olympic Games, and 4 current members train and race with the GB squad at Caversham. We look forward to seeing their success at Worlds and on the road to Tokyo 2020.
We see our relationship with Agecroft as a growing one. We enjoy taking part in their annual Santa Bar Crawl around Manchester every December, and always shouting "YEAH AGECROFT" from the sidelines of the races we attend.

The Two Cities Boat Race

The Two Cities Boat Race is an annual competition between Salford University and Manchester University. The first race was in 1972 created by Roger Vaughan, who was the Agecroft Captain at the time. Previous to 1972, Manchester University Boat Club (MUBC) competed at a much higher level than Salford in all events. It was the realisation of Roger that Salford had upped its game and could finally give Manchester a run for its money, therefore set up an annual race for the two clubs to battle it out. Footage from the first boat race in 1972 can be found at (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PWrDmc8w3-Y).
